Seasonal Fruit Tree Care & Pruning Intensive Course
A Four Class Course
Fruitstitute’s new seasonal fruit tree care & pruning intensive is a 4 class course designed to train land management professionals as well as tree and fruit enthusiasts in the art of home orcharding.
This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding and hands-on training in growing fruit trees for non-commercial purposes. It’s for all levels, from beginners to experienced pruners.
Upon completing all 4 classes in this course, students will have the advanced skills required to take care of any property whether it be a small farm, urban garden or private residence.
How does it work?
A tree’s growth cycle occurs over one year. As such, our seasonal care & pruning intensive takes 1 year to complete.
Each cohort of students meets at the orchard for a full day of instruction and pruning once per season (winter, spring, summer and fall). Students will work on the same trees at each class in order to see first hand how trees respond to the care they perform and most importantly, how trees respond to pruning cuts.
Each class focuses on the growth different varieties of fruit trees are undergoing that season and the implications it has on management, ie how the care we provide changes according to the season. The learning objectives of each class are cumulative so we highly recommend students attend all 4. Everyone must start with class #1 in order to attend any or all of the remaining 3.
For those who really want to learn how to do what we do, we highly recommend taking Fruitstitute’s online course, Fruit Tree Care 101, in conjunction with the hands-on pruning intensive.
If enrolled in both together, we will provide specific modules to watch prior to each of the seasonal pruning courses. Students who sign up for the pruning intensive will also receive a discount code for the online course and get $25 off.
All seasonal care & pruning intensives will be offered at an orchard in Los Angeles county.
